twelve steps were chiefly taken from the books of
Matthew and James.
Mat 7:1 "Do not judge so that you will not be judged.
Mat 7:2 "For in the way you judge, you will be judged;
and by your standard of measure, it will be measured to
Mat 7:3 "Why do you look at the speck that is in your
brother's eye, but do not notice the log that is in your own
Mat 7:4 "Or how can you say to your brother, 'Let me
take the speck out of your eye,' and behold, the log is in
your own eye ?
Mat 7:5 "You hypocrite, first take the log out of your own
eye, and then you will see clearly to take the speck out of
your brother's eye.
These verses are the crux of Step Four. We must clean
our house first before we can help someone else.
And if you do steps ten, eleven, and twelve on a daily
basis, not only will you keep from judging others but will
have a clear unobstructed picture (the wisdom of God) of
what kind of help the other person needs.
Mat 7:6 "Do not give what is holy to dogs, and do not
throw your pearls before swine, or they will trample them
under their feet, and turn and tear you to pieces.
We are not to judge but to use the wisdom of God to
discern: 1) If the person is ready to go through the steps,
2) What step the person is “really” on, 3) What help you
can give the person with each step, 4) And maybe the
most important of all is knowing when to “let go” of the
person and “let God” work through them so they can
begin to help others.
Mat 7:15 "Beware of the false prophets, who come to you
in sheep's clothing, but inwardly are ravenous wolves.
Mat 7:16 "You will know them by their fruits. Grapes are
not gathered from thorn bushes nor figs from thistles, are
Mat 7:17 "So every good tree bears good fruit, but the
bad tree bears bad fruit.
Mat 7:18 "A good tree cannot produce bad fruit, nor can
a bad tree produce good fruit.
Mat 7:19 "Every tree that does not bear good fruit is cut
down and thrown into the fire.
Mat 7:20 "So then, you will know them by their fruits.
When we are witnessing, disciplining,(twelve stepping),
we must do it in the Spirit and Wisdom of God. We must
use His Power, and Guidance or our “fruit” will be just
that “our fruit”. The results will be from our doing and
not from the Heart of God.
Therefore, never rush anyone through the steps, but let
the Hand of God take you and the person you are
working with one step at a time.
