According to Webster's dictionary to be “Diligent”, means to be careful and industrious.
Are we being Diligent? Are we careful not to offend others? Are we careful not to offend God?
Are we industrious in our Prayer life? Are we industrious with the time we spend with Jesus? Are we industrious in our Bible reading, study, and Scripture meditations?
How can we as mere mortals live a life that is Diligent to the things and ways of God?
I've never had the gift of being able to memorize chapter and verse numbers in the Bible. As I am, I prefer the message over the structure and that is probably why I have never given it utmost importance and this is why in my Bible Studies I am relegated to much reading. But the Apostle Paul talks about “running the race”, he talks about being in “good condition” for the enduring life and work In Christ.
How many times I have wanted to quit? How many times Satan has told me I am not good enough? How many times I thought I was not holy enough? How many times I thought I did not have enough knowledge or letters after my name? How many times in my walk with Jesus had I given up? How many times was I a failure?
How many times have I been despised by family and friends? How many times had I wondered if I even had one friend? How many times was Jesus Christ the King of Kings and Lord of Lords right by me, right next to me, right “In” me, and I forgot Him? How many times was the Bible sitting right there and I did not open it? How many times had I acted like just another person in the world instead of a blood bought Child of God? How many times when I drove or walked by a homeless person did I judge them? How many times did I not greet them? How many times did I not pray for them? How many times have I been unforgiving and judgmental? How many times have I stumbled? How many times have I had to be chastised by my Father? How many times had I never learned from these?
Listen to what Saint Peter tells us in 2 Peter 1: 3-11
“His divine power has bestowed on us everything that makes for life and devotion, through the knowledge of Him who called us by His own glory and power. Through these, He has bestowed on us the precious and very great promises, so that through them you may come to share in the divine nature, after escaping from the corruption that is in the world because of evil desire. For this very reason, MAKE EVERY EFFORT to supplement your “Faith” with “Virtue”, Virtue with “Knowledge”, Knowledge with “Self-Control”, Self-Control with “Endurance”, Endurance with “Devotion”, Devotion with “Mutual Affection”, Mutual Affection with “Love”. If these are yours and increase in abundance, they will KEEP YOU FROM BEING IDLE OR UNFRUITFUL IN THE KNOWLEDGE OF OUR LORD JESUS CHRIST. Anyone who lacks them is blind and shortsighted, forgetful of the cleansing of his past sins. Therefore, brothers, be all the more eager to make your call and election firm, for IN DOING SO , YOU WILL NEVER STUMBLE. For, in this way, entry into the eternal kingdom of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ will be richly provided for you.
