Have you ever heard of the “Armor of God”? Do you know how to put it on? Do you know how to keep it on once you have it on?
The Christian 12 Step Recovery Program is an excellent way to put on the “Whole Armor of God” and keep it on!
First, we need to know who God is in order to put on His Armor. We do this in the 2nd Step when we come to believe in Jesus Christ. By coming to believe in Jesus we are putting on the “Belt”, the “Truth” and once we do this we are granted “eternal life”, the “Helmet of Salvation”.
When we decide to turn our wills and our lives over to God (surrendering everything to Him) and say to Him “thy will, not mine, be done”, we have put on the Breastplate of Righteousness.
Then we take up the “Shield of Faith” and learn how to keep it up. Steps 4 through 7. These Steps become our pathway to peace, the “Gospel of Peace”, Steps 8 and 9.
Step Ten incorporates Steps 4 through 7 by taking a daily inventory, confessing our sin, asking for forgiveness, and asking God for help.
Step Eleven uses the “Sword of the Spirit” (the Word of God) and Prayer.
Step Twelve is ministry. When taking someone through the Steps or another form of Discipleship, the “Whole Armor of God” is in operation.
