Chapter 22: 14-21
Verse # 14 = Blessed are they who wash their robes so as to have the right to the tree of life and enter the city through its gates.
Now once again we hear of the “city”, the New Jerusalem. And once again we are told we just don’t arrogantly walk through the gates of the Holy City like we deserve it. In fact, our final “Blessing” in this Book only happens after “WE” wash our robes.
But what is “our robes”? We are told in chapter 21 that nothing “unclean” will be allowed to enter the New Jerusalem. By the way, please read chapter 11 in the Book of Proverbs, it gives a good contrast between the “righteous and evil”.
Now a “robe” is something we put on. I want to keep the robe clean how do we? Where else in the Word Of God are we told to put on something? Let us read from the Book of Ephesians 6:10-18, “Finally draw your Strength from the Lord and from His Mighty Power. Put on the Armor of God so that you may be able to Stand Firm against the tactics of the devil. For our Struggle is not with Flesh and Blood but with the Principalities with the Powers, with the Evil spirits in the heavens. Therefore, put on the Armor of God, that you may be able to Resist on the evil day and have done everything to Hold your Ground; so Stand Fast with your Loins Girded in Truth, clothed with Righteousness as a Breastplate, and your Feet Shod in Readiness for the Gospel of Peace. In All Circumstances, hold Faith as a Shield, to Quench all the Flaming Arrows of the evil one. And take the Helmet of Salvation and the Sword of the Spirit, which is the Word of God. With all Prayer and Supplication, Pray at every opportunity in the Spirit. To that end, be Watchful with all Perseverance and Supplication for all the Holy Ones….”
Verse # 15 = Outside are the dogs, the sorcerers, the unchaste, the murderers, the idol - worshipers, and all who love and practice deceit.
I was very disturbed after reading this verse because I have a dog. And I know he is going to heaven. They have horses in heaven they can’t discriminate! However, upon research I found that in ancient times dog were seen as being unclean and not holy, in fact, in many parts of the world today many who still practice ancient customs actually hate dogs.
The last part of the verse I find most interesting, “all who love and practice deceit”, yes there are actually people and we know of many “who love” to deceive others, it's their vocation in life.
Verse # 16 = I Jesus, sent my angel to give you this testimony for the Churches. I am the root and offspring of David, the Bright Morning Star.”
Jesus is telling us that He is the One who sent the angel to St. John.
Where have we seen this before in the Book of the Revelation of Jesus Christ? Let us read again from chapter 5:5, One of the elders said to me, “do not weep, the Lion of the Tribe of Judah, the Root of David has triumphed, enabling Him to open the scroll with its Seven Seals.
Remember, unless Jesus had ancestry going back to King David He could have never been the Messiah. The heir to David’s throne is called the “root” of Jesse. Let us read from the prophet Isaiah 11:10, In that day the Root of Jesse will stand as a banner for the people; the nations will rally to Him, and His resting place will be glorious.
Verse # 17 = The Spirit and Bride say, “come” let the hearer say, “come” let the one who thirsts come forward, and the one who wants it receive the gift of life-giving water.
Notice it has always been the Holy Spirit who draws people to Jesus and it is Jesus who draws people to His Church.
Verse # 18 = I warn everyone who hears the prophetic words in this Book: if anyone adds to them, God will add to him the plagues described in this Book.
Similar words are used in the Book of Deuteronomy 4:2 and Proverbs 30:6 that nothing may be altered in any way for this is the Word of God.
Verse # 19 = And if anyone takes away from the words in this prophetic Book God will take away his share in the Tree of Life and in the Holy City described in this Book.
I often tell people who praise Martin Luther for the protest reformation that the Book of the Revelation of Jesus Christ was one of many that he wanted to omit from the Bible.
Verse # 20 = The one who gives this testimony says, “yes, I am coming soon.” Amen! Come, Lord Jesus!
“Come Lord Jesus” is similar to the Aramaic expression “Maranatha” - Our Lord Come! Jesus spoke in Aramaic see 1 Corinthians 16:22
In our Bible Studies we have learned that the number Seven is used in the Bible signifying a perfection or completeness. Seven times in the Book of the Revelation of Jesus Christ this idea of the Lord coming back to earth again is repeated to show us that this a true and perfect event that is definite! Please see again, 2:16, 3:11, 16:15, 22:7, 12, 17, 20
Verse # 21 = The Grace of the Lord Jesus be with all.
I am greatly humbled, shocked, and happy beyond belief that after 5 yrs I have completed this verse by verse study in the Book of the Revelation of Jesus Christ.
I began counting my blessings to prove this Book and to date I have around 265 Blessings.
I am completed this work on the 8th of July 2017, the anniversary of both my mother’s passing and my deceased dad’s birthday.
In closing, I hope I have “made known to our brothers and sisters, still enveloped by the clouds of doubt and depression, the joyful proclamation that there has risen over the horizon of their lives ‘the Bright Morning Star, the Redeemer of man, Christ the Lord “
(St. John Paul II, Homily, 18 May 1980).
Praise God thank You Jesus!
