What We Believe
The Holy Scriptures, comprised of the Old and New Testaments, are fully and verbally inspired by God and are therefore infallible in the original writings and completely trustworthy in all areas in which they speak.
There is only one eternal, almighty, and perfect God. Within the Being of this one true God exist three eternally distinct and coequal Persons: the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. These three Persons are the one true God.
Jesus Christ is the eternal Son of God, the Second Person of the Trinity, who took upon Himself human flesh through the miraculous conception by the Holy Spirit in the womb of the Virgin Mary. He who is true God became true man, uniting two natures in one person forever. Christ lived a perfect, sinless life, died on the cross as an atoning sacrifice for our sins, rose bodily from the dead, and ascended into Heaven where He now serves as our High Priest, our only Mediator. He will return bodily and visibly to the earth as King of kings and will judge every human being who has ever lived.
The Holy Spirit is the eternal Third Person of the Triune God, the Regenerator and Sanctifier of the redeemed, the Bestower of spiritual fruit and gifts, and the abiding Advocate who empowers believers for godly living and service.
Those who have received the free gift of salvation will live forever in the fellowship and Kingdom of God (heaven). Eternal, conscious punishment apart from the fellowship and Kingdom of God (hell) is the ultimate destiny of unredeemed humanity, Satan, and his entire angelic host.
The Christian church, which is the body and bride of Christ, is composed of all persons who through saving faith in Jesus Christ have been regenerated by the Holy Spirit. Corporately and individually, its members strive to worship, serve, and glorify God through prayer and praise, diligent study and application of the Scriptures, evangelism, sanctified living, good works, and observance of the rites of baptism and the Lord’s Supper. The ultimate mission of the church is the discipleship of all nations — not only the saving of souls (which is primary) but also bringing the gospel to bear on every aspect of life and thought — until the Lord returns.
First Corinthians Chapter Thirteen
LOVE
If I speak in human and angelic tongues but do not have love, I am a resounding gong or a clashing cymbal.
And if I have the gift of prophecy and comprehend all mysteries and all knowledge; if I have all faith so as to move mountains but do not have love, I am nothing.
If I give away everything I own, and if I hand my body over so that I may boast but do not have love, I gain nothing.
Love is patient, love is kind. It is not jealous, (love) is not pompous, it is not inflated,
it is not rude, it does not seek its own interests, it is not quick-tempered, it does not brood over injury,
it does not rejoice over wrongdoing but rejoices with the truth.
It bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things.
Love never fails. If there are prophecies, they will be brought to nothing; if tongues, they will cease; if knowledge, it will be brought to nothing.
For we know partially and we prophesy partially,
but when the perfect comes, the partial will pass away.
When I was a child, I used to talk as a child, think as a child, reason as a child; when I became a man, I put aside childish things.
At present we see indistinctly, as in a mirror, but then face to face. At present I know partially; then I shall know fully, as I am fully known.
So faith, hope, love remain, these three; but the greatest of these is love.
THE TWELVE STEP RECOVERY PROGRAM
1.I admit that I am powerless over the effects of my separation or lack of fellowship with God, and that my life has become unmanageable.
2. I believe that the power of Jesus Christ, through the working of the Holy Spirit, will restore me to fellowship with God.
3. I will make a decision to turn my will and my life over to the care of God.
4. I will take a searching and fearless moral inventory of myself.
5. I will admit to God, to myself, and to another human being, the exact nature of my wrongs.
6. I will become entirely ready to have God remove all of my sins..
7. I will humbly ask Him to remove them.
8. I will make a list of all persons I have harmed, and become willing to make amends to them all.
9. I will make direct amends to such people wherever possible, except when to do so would injure them or others.
10. I will continue to take a daily personal inventory, and when I am wrong, I will try to promptly admit it.
11. I will seek through prayer and meditation to improve my conscious contact with God, praying only for the knowledge of His will for me and the power to carry it out.
12. Having had a spiritual awakening as the result of these steps, I will try to carry this message to others and I will try to practice these principles in all of my affairs.
Biblical Interpretation of the Twelve Steps
STEP ONE
I know nothing good lives in me,
that is, in my sinful nature.
For I have the desire to do what is good,
but I cannot carry it out. Rom. 7:17
STEP TWO
For it is God who works in you
to will and to act according to His good purpose.
Phil.2:13
STEP THREE
Therefore, I urge you, brethren,
in view of God’s mercy,
to offer your bodies as living sacrifices,
holy and pleasing to God-
which is your spiritual worship. Rom.12:1
STEP FOUR
Let us examine our ways and test them,
and let us return to the Lord. Lam.3:40
STEP FIVE
If we confess our sins,
he is faithful and just
and will forgive us our
sins and purify us from
all unrighteousness. 1 John 1:9
STEP SIX
Whoever tries to keep his life will lose it,
and whoever loses his life
will preserve it. Luke.17:33
STEP SEVEN
Ask and it will be given to you;
seek and you will find;
knock and the door will be opened to you.
For everyone who asks receives;
he who seeks finds; and to him who knocks,
the door will be opened. Matt. 7:7-8
STEP EIGHT
Therefore, if you are offering your gift
at the altar and there remember
that your brother has something against you,
leave your gift there in front of the altar.
First go and be reconciled to your brother;
then come and offer your gift. Matt. 5:23-24
STEP NINE
Fools mock at making amends for sin,
but goodwill is found among the upright.
Each heart knows its own bitterness,
and no one else can share its joy.
The house of the wicked will be destroyed,
but the tent of the upright will flourish.
There is a way that seems right to a man,
but in the end it leads to death. Proverbs 14:9-12
STEP TEN
Do not repay anyone evil for evil.
Be careful to do what is right
in the eyes of everybody.
If it is possible,
as far as it depends on you,
live at peace with
everyone. Do not take revenge,
my friends, but leave room for God’s wrath,
for it is written: “It is mine to avenge;
I will repay,” says the Lord. Romans 12:17-19
STEP ELEVEN
Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly
as you teach and admonish
one another with all wisdom,
and as you sing psalms,
hymns and spiritual songs
with gratitude in Your hearts to God.
And whatever you do, whether in word or deed,
do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus,
giving thanks to God the Father through Him.
Colossians 3:15-17
Let the words of my mouth,
and the meditations of my heart
be acceptable in thy sight, O Lord,
my strength and my redeemer. Psalms 19:14
STEP TWELVE
Brethren, if a man is overtaken in any trespass,
you who are spiritual
should restore him in
a spirit of gentleness. Look to yourself,
lest you too be tempted.
Galatians 6:1
2Ti 2:2 The things which you have heard from me in the
presence of many witnesses, entrust these to faithful men
who will be able to teach others also.
To Be Recovered
According to the Merriam-Webster Dictionary, To Be Recovered means “to bring back to normal position or condition. The Cambridge Dictionary states “to get back something lost, especially health, ability, possessions, etc. All Words. Com “To regain one’s good health, spirits or composure.” And my favorite from Word Net “cured, healed, recovered, freed from illness or injury; found after being lost”
Some of you may ask, “why a 12 step program? What is so special about the number 12?”
In the Gospel of Mark chapter 3 verse 14 God chose Twelve Disciples to follow Him.
In the Book of Revelation chapter 21 verse 21 there are Twelve gates to the new Jerusalem. The Gospel of Matthew chapter 19 verse 28 talks about the Twelve Tribes of Israel. In the Gospel of Mark chapter 6 verse 43 there were Twelve baskets of food left when Jesus broke the bread and fish and fed five thousand. The Gospel of Luke chapter 2 verse 42 tells us that Jesus was Twelve years old when He taught in the temple. In the book of 1 Kings chapter 18 verse 31 we see Twelve stones in Elijah’s Altar where God answered by fire. And, by the way, there are Twelve months in a year, and the word “Gospel” means “good news”.
Now before we begin to go through the steps it is suggested by not mandatory that you have a Bible and The Recovered Through Christ Workbook. And always approach the Bible praying that the Holy Spirit will be your teacher and will guide you to a better understanding of His Holy Word.
However, what is mandatory is that you do not go through the steps alone. Jesus said; in Matthew chapter 18 verse 20 “Where two or more are gathered together in my name, there I am in their midst.”
It is also mandatory that while you are going through the steps you stop whatever it is that hinders your fellowship with God. God is telling you right now that He love’s you and wants you to be a clean vessel for Him to come into and fellowship with.
Now it is time to ask yourself, who's the boss - you, or the problems you are facing? Have mostly all phases of your life become unmanageable because of these problems? It stands to reason that if you can't manage your life then you need someone who can. So another words, you need a new manager!
But first, you must ask yourself these questions: 1) What am I willing to do to get rid of the problem? 2) What am I willing to do to get rid of the effects the problem has had on my life? 3) When do I want to get better -to recover? If your answer to the first two questions is ANYTHING, and you feel you are ready, without question, to go all the way, then your new manager Jesus Christ will be able to take care of your life.
If you feel that this program is too hard or that you are not worthy of God’s Love, listen to what Jesus is saying in Matthew chapter 11 verses 28-30” Come to me, all you who labor and are burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am meek and humble of heart, and you will find rest for yourselves. For my yoke is easy, and my burden light.” And in the Book of Philippians chapter 4 verse 13 “ I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me”.
Are the Steps the answer? No, Jesus is! And without The Cross there can be no recovery or healing. By Jesus going to the Cross and making atonement for our sins we are free to live a life that is not in bondage to sin. As the Prophet Isaiah so states in chapter 53 verses 3 through 6, “ He is despised and rejected of men; a man of sorrows, and acquainted with grief: and we hid as it were our faces from Him; He was despised, and we esteemed Him not. Surely he has borne our grief’s, and carried our sorrows: yet we did esteem Him stricken, smitten of God, and afflicted. But He was wounded for our transgressions, He was bruised for our iniquities: the chastisement of our peace was upon Him; and with His stripes we are healed. All we like sheep have gone astray, we have turned every one to his own way; and the Lord has laid on Him the iniquity of us all.”
The Steps are only tools to help those in need to find God and for those who have found Him to get closer to Him. And, these tools play a role in our walk by allowing us to see a sin at work in us and the ability to stop it before it steam-rolls into more sins. This is very important because the more we sin the more our heart becomes hard. And if our heart becomes too hard we begin to leave Christian fellowship and subsequently the ultimate hardening happens when we lose our faith or decide it is not for us and denounce Jesus.
Everyone can use the Steps for salvation, healing, and for personal enhancement in their walk with Jesus. However, most people will not put in the time and effort. Some will go as far as the Third Step and maybe the Fourth, and some will look at a particular step and think that one is their answer. What can hold someone back from experiencing the Healing power of Jesus and the Abundant Life He offers?
We see this in the Bible countless times. The Pharisees who thought they had all the answers and were abiding by the law were blinded to the Truth even though they saw God Himself in the flesh. So, how easy it is for us today to think that once we have said the sinner's prayer and maybe attend church that this is the all and end all of our Christian experience. And the same can apply to those who rather see a sin and not call it as a sin as Jesus did but call it a character defect.
The rich man that Jesus talked to is seen in most of us here today. Could it be that we are too consumed with consumables to take the time to be more Christ like? How close do we want to get to Jesus? Are we afraid because of family, friends, or co-workers that we will be labeled Jesus freaks?
I must tell you that the Healing Power of Jesus Christ is more than any obstacle that is in your way. And by the time you get to the Ninth Step you will see so many healings and miracles in your life that while you are doing a Ninth Step with someone they will be healed or at least will be able to see the healing in you that is the Holy Spirit.
